Dapoli is a small town also known as "Mini Mahabaleshwar" of Konkan as it is comparatively cooler than other places in Konkan. Dapoli acts as a main town for many surrounding villages like Anjarle, Harnai, Dabhol, Jaalgaon, Gimhavane, Asud, Karde etc. Jaalgaon was awarded the 'संत गाडगेबाबा ग्राम स्वच्छता' award by Maharashtra Government.
Dapoli is separated from the Sayhadri range by the Khed taluka. The principal rivers are Bharja in the north and Vashishthi in the south. There is also a small river called Jog which flows through Sarang, Tadil and into the Arabian sea. Despite being about 7 km away from the coast of Arabian sea, the town is located at an altitude of around 800 feet
Dapoli is also famous for being the home of one of the four Agricultural Universities in Maharashtra. It is named for Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth. Dapoli has a Centre for Krishna Consciousness movement, youth programs for Agriculture, and Ramraje Engineering colleges.
Dapoli has a very old school called A. G. High school; school is named after British citizen Alfred Gadney. During the time of the English empire, Dapoli was a military camp for the British soldiers. And hence some of the old residents also term Dapoli as Camp.
Dapoli is considered the birthplace of Bharat Ratna Maharshi Annasaheb Karve(Murud), Sane Guruji, Lokmanya Tilak(Chikhalgaon) & his wife(Ladghar)and Bharat Ratna P.V. Kane. Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar has studied for few years in Alfred Gadney Highschool.
